The Gift of Friendship

After a catching up with a long-time friend, and later being in a place of inspiration for me – which happens to be Disneyland, this poem came to me.

First come the weddings, then come the children and divorces.

Through it all, I’m a by-stander.

Always there as a friend,

Through the good and the bad,

Watching life plays out,

In what we call life – the human journey.

Soon enough, there will come a time for sickness and deaths.

Am I prepared to serve as a friend?

My purpose is to be a friend.

Gather the emotional strength,

Stand as a shoulder to lean on.

Gather life’s wisdoms,

Share nuggets of inspiration when I am called for.

Use me universe. Let me be of service.

Show me the way to share the triumphs and joys of others,

Give me the strength and wisdom to help the woes of others.

For if I can be a friend, it’s a life well-lived.

For if I can give, it’s life’s greatest gift.
